Jamie Nelson - Co-Founder
Jamie is a former advisor at the US Department of State, the US Senate, and the White House. He brings a unique perspective and rigor to multifaceted engagements, especially those that at the intersection of the non-profit, government and business sectors. He advises private families and non-profit foundations on strategy, operations and research-driven solutions to big, messy international problems.
He has an extensive background of work with private businesses, the US government and non-profit organizations throughout Europe, the Middle East and Africa with experience in over 30 countries. He has designed, led and supported dozens of research and client trips to Sub-Saharan Africa, Central America and SE Asia. He speaks Spanish fluently and has studied German, Arabic and Turkish.
Jamie is currently teaching in the Master of Arts in Applied International Studies Degree Program at the Jackson School for International Studies at the University of Washington. He holds a Masters of Arts in International Affairs from the George Washington University, a Masters of Arts in International Security Studies from the Naval War College and a dual Bachelor of Arts in International Relations and Spanish from Portland State University.
Kent Patton - Director of Government and Policy
Kent has had a diverse career in both international and domestic affairs, focusing on the Middle East, Europe and policy making in both Washington, D.C. and Washington State. Kent has worked with Presidents, Prime Ministers, Members of Congress/Parliament, party leaders, Mayors, and City Councilors on areas as diverse as international relations, crisis management, governance, land use, strategic planning and communications.
Kent served as Deputy Assistant Secretary of State in the Bureau of Near Eastern Affairs; his specific duties included managing the G-8’s Broader Middle East and North Africa initiative for the US Government. Kent also worked closely with the Obama Administration transition staff to help ensure a smooth hand-off of Middle East policy.
Prior to joining the State Department, Kent was Chief of Party in Kabul, Afghanistan and West Bank/Gaza for the International Republican Institute. Kent has managed statewide, Congressional and local campaigns, worked for a Member of Congress and been involved with public affairs at the local and state level in Washington.
Dave Johnson - Co-Founder
Dave brings years of business leadership, technology and marketing experience to Red Telescope Ventures. He fuses his early experience as a technology engineer with years of international business leadership. Dave has led the deployment of cutting edge voice, data and video technical solutions at multiple Olympic Games, managed international business development teams and activated worldwide marketing campaigns based upon some of the world's most highly visible and mission critical technology solutions.
Previously, Dave was the Director of Customer Experience Marketing at Avaya, General Manager of Olympic Programs at Nortel and Avaya, and Director of Executive Operations for Nortel. From 2000 to 2005, he held various positions in sales and sales engineering at Nortel and spent three years at AT&T in Data Technical Marketing. Dave holds a BA in Business Administration from the University of Washington's Foster School of Business.
Dave Williams - Director of Research
For over 25 years Dave Williams has been advising corporate and political clients on market and opinion research in international markets including the campaign committee for Presidents Rupiah Banda (Zambia), Ali Bongo Ondimba (Gabon), Governor William F. Weld (R - MA), GTE/Sylvania, Hydro-Quebec, the National Association of Government Employees, the Providence Journal-Bulletin, the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), Harvard University (Radcliffe Institute for Advanced Study), the US Agency for International Development (USAID), and the United States Department of State.
Mr. Williams has supervised over one hundred separate international survey projects in Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Croatia, Cuba, Gabon, Guinea, Iraq, Israel, Jordan, Kuwait, Lebanon, Macedonia, Madagascar, Malaysia, Niger, Pakistan, Romania, Serbia, Slovakia, Turkey, Thailand, Ukraine, the Palestinian territories of the West Bank and Gaza, and Zambia.
He has appeared as a political analyst and commentator on several radio and television stations including WLNE in Providence, RI, the New England Cable News Network (NECN), WGBH Boston (PBS), WGBH radio’s The World co-produced by the BBC World Service and Public Radio International (PRI), and Al Jazeera.
